How old do you have to be to go on a trip?If you’re between 16 and 19-years-old, you can sign up for a trip. These age limits are based on the age you will be on the first day of the trip, so as long as you are within the range above by then, you are welcome to register.

Can I connect with my friends on the same trip?YES! We encourage youth to bring their friends. However, youth need to be aware that even if they come with friends, they may be placed in different team. We encourage youth to make new friends with people when you come.

How many people are on a trip?The maximum total number of youth per trip session is 50. Youth will be divided into smaller teams onsite.

Can I accompany my son or daughter to HYPE?YES! Parents who would like to come on the trip as Parent Leaders are invited. Click HERE for more information.

Can I attend HYPE if I live outside of the U.S. or Canada?Yes. All participants regardless of home state or country are invited to attend. Be aware that ALL participants regardless of where they live are responsible for round trip transportation to and from the “gathering” airport in the U.S. Please be aware of immunization requirements from countries outside the U.S. or Canada.

What do I need to do about my passport?You will need a passport for your international travel. If you don’t have a valid passport six months after you return home from your trip, you will NOT be able to participate in your trip. It is the responsibility of Parents and participants, prior to attending a HYPE experience, to have their valid passport with an expiration date no earlier than 6 months AFTER the return to their home country. Start the process early to avoid problems.

What information will I provide to register?To register, you’ll need to provide the participant and parent full name, email address, phone number, and address. Participant t-shirt size and grade, is also asked. Once you have registered and paid the deposit, you will receive a checklist with instructions with additional information that we will need. At the time of registration, you will also agree to the HYPE policies, which can be viewed HERE

Do I have to pay the $500 deposit when I register?Yes! Your $500 deposit will secure your spot for your HYPE experience. Spots are limited so be sure to secure your spot today! REGISTER HERE

What if I need to cancel, will I get my deposit back?Upon registration, you must pay a $500 deposit to secure your spot for your HYPE experience. These funds become non-refundable after January 30th, 2025. After January 30, ALL deposits become non-refundable.

When are payments due?Your $500 deposit is due at registration, a payment of $1500 is due by January 30, 2025 and the remaining trip balance is due by February 28, 2025. Registrations made after February 28th will need to be paid in full at the time of registration.

I don't think I can afford a HYPE experience, what are my options?There are a number of things you can do to raise the money for your trip including side jobs, crowdfunding or selling products. Will I be able to communicate with my child while they are on their trip?HYPE recognizes the importance of knowing your child is safe. Because of international and humanitarian locations, communication can be a little tricky. We have a SCREEN-FREE PARADISE policy to allow participants to get the most out of their experience. We have set up a social media account and emails that will let you know your participant is safe and well and having the time of their life. We will also provide you with an emergency number you can call in case there is some emergency for which you need to contact your child. Parent and trip leaders will have phones to be able to communicate as necessary.

What if there is an emergency and I need to get in touch with my child?Prior to your child’s departure from home, we will provide you with an emergency number you can call in case there is some emergency for which you need to contact your child.

When will I get my packing list?Packing lists will be available for your location after registration.

What do I need to do about my passport?You will need a passport for your international travel. Will I need to know the local language for my trip?No. English is the language used at HYPE. There are no additional language requirements to attend HYPE.

Do I need to purchase Travel or Health insurance for my trip?We recommend that you purchase your own Cancel for Any Reason policy to protect your investment if YOU need to cancel your trip for any reason. You will be required to have your own medical insurance just in case you have a problem that requires treatment.

Can I still come on a trip if I have food allergies, diabetes, or other restrictions?Most of the time, local food providers can accommodate those with food allergies or restrictions, but bring snacks that you can eat in case you are unable to eat a certain meal or portion of a meal. HYPE will collect health information as part of your Participant Information after you register. We then let your trip leaders and our in-country food providers know about any restrictions you have. Sometimes food options are limited or unlabeled, so it is your job to monitor what you eat during your trip.

What do I need to know to fill out/upload my Notarized Authorization?Every youth participant attending HYPE will need a Notarized Authorization. The documents and details on how this should be done will be provided to you after registration.

Which flight costs do I pay separate from my trip cost?You are responsible for purchasing a domestic flight to and from our “gathering” airport. You will also be responsible for luggage cost to and from the “gathering” airport. HYPE will provide international flights. More details will be available after registration.

What “Gathering” airport am I flying out of?Upon registration you will be notified of the “Gathering” airport for your destination along with additional details.

How do I know where to meet my group at the “gathering” airport?HYPE Trip Leaders will set a designated meeting area for your group at the “Gathering” airport. (Details of how to communicate with the HYPE Trip Leaders will be given after registration.) The meeting area will be outside of security. The whole group will travel together from that point onward.

How much luggage can I bring?For international trips you can bring 1 personal item, 1 standard sized carry-on item, and 1 standard sized checked bag. For domestic trips you can typically bring 1 personal item, and 1 standard sized carry-on item. So, depending on your airline, you may need to pay for a checked bag on the domestic flight to the “gathering” Airport.

Can a participant fly separately from the group or stay longer in the country after the trip ends?Participants, including Parent Leaders and Trip Leaders, are required to travel together with the group from the designated “Gathering” airport to the destination country, and they must return with the group to the same “Gathering” airport at the end of the trip. Independent travel to or from the destination country, or leaving the group early for personal travel, is not allowed.

Why be a parent leader?This is a special chance for your child to view you in a new light—not just as their parent, but also as a role model, a friend, and a mentor to their new circle of friends.

Who can participate?Parents of registered Youth Participants can sign up as a Parent Leader. There is also an opportunity for other family members such as grandparents, aunts and uncles to attend. This opportunity is available for adults ages 35-75 yrs. What if you want to come as a couple? If you are a married couple wanting to go with your Youth or grandparents seeking to have a mission-like experience, you are invited to apply.

What does a parent leader do?Parent leaders will be teamed with one of our Trip Leaders to ensure the safety of the trip, exemplify spiritual leadership, prepare and teach daily devotionals, and commit to loving the youth and Trip Leaders.

Can both my spouse and I go as Parent Leaders on the same trip with our child?YES! We love it when families work together. HYPE is not designed to be a “family trip” but it is designed to strengthen individuals and families. Spouses will work with different Trip Leaders and teams. While we do what we can, it is not guaranteed that couples will be able to stay together in our site accommodations.

What do you expect of Parent Leaders?Pray about how you can personally impact each participant Co-Lead a group of youth with the HYPE Trip Leaders Honor the rules, set an example and stay with the group Attend pre-training meetings Stay on site with the group

How do you vet Parent Leaders?Parent Leaders are vetted in the same manner as our Trip Leaders. Applications will need to be submitted (click HERE) as well as ecclesiastical endorsements and background checks.

What makes a good Parent Leader?Our best Parent Leaders are positive mentors for youth. Exemplary Parent Leaders exhibit positive attitudes, trust, hard work, love working with youth and have the ability to connect well with youth. Parent Leaders will need to be able to observe the needs of their group and trip leader and support in any way needed.

Are Trip Leaders Paid?YES. Trip Leaders are a paid position.

When can I apply to be a Trip Leader and when will I hear back?Applications for trip leaders are available after locations have been announced. Trip leaders are hired based upon need and performance of the applicant during the selection process; you will be notified by March 1, when decisions have been made concerning your application. How long is my commitment as a Trip Leader?We ask that Trip Leaders be available for the duration of the Summer at the location for which they are hired. Most locations will start at the beginning of June and end after the second week in August.

Can I go with my spouse?YES! HYPE encourages young married couples to apply and attend sessions together as Trip Leaders as long as they don’t have children. The same rules always apply for married Trip Leaders as well as single Trip Leaders.

How do I know if I am qualified to be a Trip Leader?We look for energetic, kind, caring 20-30 year-olds that have a strong testimony of the restored Church of Jesus Christ and a life that reflects that belief. You will be expected to stay for the duration of all the sessions at your site.

What training will I receive as a Trip Leader?Trip Leader Training will be three days long (dates will be announced after you are hired). This is mandatory! Don’t worry about the training details, it will be mind blowing. There is a zoom option available for those who cannot attend in person.

Is HYPE sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?No. While we live and believe in the teachings of the Church, HYPE is an independent program operated by Cumorah Academy, a non-profit organization.

Are HYPE participants required to have the Covid-19 vaccine?HYPE will not be requiring participants to receive the vaccine. However, HYPE will be complying to the travel guidelines of the areas we visit, so some requirements and/or restrictions/limitations may apply based on location regulations.

Are these experiences sightseeing trips?No… and maybe a little Yes. HYPE is the perfect blend of work and play. Every session will involve excursions to see the local areas. You will be able to experience some of the local sites, food, and fun activities.

Is this a rehabilitation program of some type?NO. HYPE programs are designed to be life changing. However, they are not designed for teens experiencing serious emotional, moral, substance abuse, or discipline problems.
